Professor Lu is an expert in aerospace guidance and control, and worked as a chair professor of the Cheung Kong Scholars Program since 2006. He is currently a professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University. For years, he has engaged in the research of modern advanced aerospace guidance, control method and algorithm design. He served as the deputy director of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) branch of American Association of Automatic Control and the AIAA Guidance, Navigation and Control technical committee member. He won NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Certification for Leading Advanced Entry Guidance Algorithm in 2003 and the AIAA Sustained Service Award in 2006.
