From 8th to 9th May of 2014, the 1st International Forum on Aeronautical Materials and Structure Testing & Evaluation was co-hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) in Shanghai. The theme of this forum was Testing, makes flying safer.
Attending representatives came from over 120 organizations, including the Us Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing, Airbus, CYTEC Company, MTS Company, the FAA Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials in Aircraft Structures (AMTAS), the National Composites Certification and Evaluation Facility (NCCEF), University of Manchester, EVONIK Industries, Shanghai Committee of Science and Technology, China Eastern Airlines, and Aviation Industry Corporation. The forum was co-chaired by Chief Engineer of COMAC Jiang Liping, Prof. Wang Hai of SJTU, the Director of AMTAS Prof. Mark Tuttle, and the Director of NCCEF Prof. Constanitinos Soutis. Lin Zhongqin, the Executive Vice President of SJTU, gave a welcome speech on behalf of the university.
The forum lasted one day and focused on aeronautical materials, structure performance and evaluation, technology and equipment, airworthiness compliance verification, and structure testing & fixing. During the forum, some of the representatives were invited to visit the Laboratory of Civil Aircraft Structures Testing (LCAST) in the Aerospace Building. In addition, the Aeronautical Materials and Structure Testing & Evaluation Alliance was established during this forum.
