On September 19th 2014, Professor Sir Peter Gregson, Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield University, together with his delegation, visited the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics (SAA), SJTU. Vice Dean of SAA, Zhan Xingqun, received the guests.
The delegation delivered a report about the overview of Cranfield University, including educational idea and philosophy, disciplines, student numbers, employment situation and influences. They mainly introduced the aeronautic and astronautic advantages of Cranfield University, especially the Cranfield Airport and National Aerial Vehicle Experimental Center. In addition, they presented photos and videos of their ongoing research program.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the laboratories of SAA.
Cranfield University was founded in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics. In 1967, the college presented the Privy Council with a petition for the grant of a Royal Charter, along with a draft charter for a new institution to be called Cranfield Institute of Technology.
The Cranfield Institute of Technology was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1969, giving the institution its own degree-awarding powers. The university has established cooperation relationships with numerous international companies and research institutions, including Boeing, Airbus, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, Shell Oil Company, and Nissan.
