On July 19, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global Challenge Project "Exploring Qinghai&Gansu with Beidou Technology"-an international practice camp for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveying and rescue for the northwest unmanned land, set off to Dunhuang City, Gansu Province, and Lenghu Town, Qinghai Province to carry out scientific research Practice.
The practice camp recruited 32 Chinese and foreign students from ten colleges and different majors. Through the 9-day event, the practice camp will try to propose feasible and executable solutions to help the local implementation as much as possible.
In mid-June, the practice camp held a pre-departure preparatory meeting and training meeting.
The instructors explained the relevant knowledge about UAV surveying and mapping for the students in the practice camp, and systematically trained a series of contents such as the principle and operation of RTK positioning. The practice camp is divided into drone surveying and mapping group, RTK verification group, and social research group.
On the morning of July 20th, the practice camp arrived at Dunhuang Railway Station to start this journey of practice challenge.
On the afternoon of July 20, the practice camp came to Dunhuang Dongjie Primary School and held the opening ceremony.
Zhan Xingqun presented science books to Dongjie Primary School on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
On July 21, the practice camp came to Yangguan and began surveying and mapping the selected area. The campers conducted a short flight test and data preprocessing, and corrected the flight based on the 3D image formed by the preliminary modeling.
Teacher Zhang Xiaohui and the students in charge of the science education group guided the pupils in Yangguan to make and assemble model airplanes.
Teacher Mu Zhongcheng introduced science to elementary school students and explained the principles of Beidou satellite and navigation, which can be applied in various fields in the future.
Through the activities of these two days, the students of the practice camp fully appreciate the magnificent natural scenery and profound cultural heritage in the west, and have a deeper understanding of the relationship between aerospace knowledge and historical protection. In the next few days, the practice camp will devote more enthusiasm to the follow-up challenge activities and complete the next tasks in Lenghu.
