Liu Hongtao, visiting professor of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was elected as an academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering

Recently, Hongtao Liu, an alumnus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a visiting professor of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was elected as an academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Congratulations to Professor Liu!

Dr. Hugh Hong-Tao Liu is a graduate of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1991, a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, a professor at the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the University of Toronto, and a visiting professor at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

During his tenure as a visiting professor of our college, Liu Hongtao made great efforts to promote the comprehensive cooperation between the college and the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the University of Toronto, which has played a great role in the training of talents and academic research of the college. He promoted the regular exchange of visits and exchanges between the two sides. The two sides reached consensus on educational cooperation and scientific research project talks, joint student training, joint scientific research and joint international conferences.

In 2012, the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Aerospace Institute of the University of Toronto signed a master's double degree agreement (the first from the left is Professor Liu Hongtao).

In 2017, President Lin Zhongqin and President of the University of Toronto Meric Gertler, signed an agreement on the joint doctoral training program. The two universities took the lead in carrying out joint doctoral training in the field of aerospace.

Since the implementation of the project, our school has sent a total of 20 students in 7 sessions to study in the dual master’s program, and a total of 4 doctoral students in 2 sessions for joint doctoral training, all of which have achieved good results. Professor Liu Hongtao actively guides the students of the joint training program and serves as a tutor for many students of our college. Based on the cooperation between the two parties in the joint training of talents, Liu Hongtao has contributed to the construction of the college's undergraduate, master and doctoral course system, and has deeply implemented the characteristic project of the Ministry of Education - "The University of Toronto Foreign Teachers Project for the Construction of the Undergraduate, Master and Doctoral Course System Construction".

Liu Hongtao and Professor Zhan Xingqun, the vice president of our school, successfully applied for the "Seed Fund" project of SJTU-UT. The two sides have carried out in-depth cooperation on the coordinated navigation and cluster control of UAV formations, mainly online and supplemented by offline.

Professor Liu Hongtao gave a report at the "International Lecture Hall of Aerospace" in our college.

Liu Hongtao has served as a member of the previous program committees of the International Conference (ICASSE) hosted by the Institute, participated in conference preparation, reviewed excellent papers, and published keynotes or specially invited reports at the conference every year. He also serves on the editorial board of Aerospace Systems, an international journal founded by the college, and has contributed to the establishment of high-level international journals by the college. He also visited the college many times and gave many academic lectures such as "Cooperative Drone Delivery: Stabilization and Control" and "Reinforcement Learning for Cooperative Hunting".

We look forward to having more teachers and students from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics to carry out scientific research cooperation and visiting exchanges with the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the University of Toronto.
