City Walk in the First Snow | Students Experience the Unique Suzhou River

On January 15th, 2023, the students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics embarked on a cultural exploration of the Suzhou River through a City Walk organized by the school.

The Huangpu section of the Suzhou River is a microcosm of Shanghai's urban construction, social governance, and cultural immersion. It is a modern architecture museum and a century-old bridge museum, nurturing the growth and development of modern Shanghai and inheriting the historical context of a hundred years.

With the support of the Huangpu Tourism Association, national senior English tour guide and Shanghai Youth Talent Shen Weiying led the students on a walk along the Huangpu section of the Suzhou River, passing by various outstanding historical buildings from modern times, including the most beautiful gas station, British tram company, Zhapu Road Bridge, Waitanyuan Rowing Association, the original New Tianan Church, the former British Consulate, Waibaidu Bridge, Huangpu Park, and the People's Heroes Monument. As they enjoyed the sights and sounds, the students listened to the stories behind the architecture and took photos at landmarks such as the Shanghai Postal Museum, Waibaidu Bridge, and Oriental Pearl Tower.

Through the immersive experience of City Walk, the students used their feet to touch the temperature and charm of Shanghai. By telling the story of Shanghai's architecture, they learned about Shanghai's modern history and urban development. The students said that although they had visited the Bund several times before, they had never discovered the unique scenery of the Suzhou River, which is not far from the Bund.
