Recently, the final of the 2023 China Aeromodelling Design Challenge and the National Aerospace Model Championship for Scientific Research was held in Changsha, Hunan, attracting nearly 1,500 participants from 81 well-known universities to pursue the dream of aerospace. The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University won one first prize and one second prize, among which the “simulated carrier-based net recovery” project won the national team championship, achieving a breakthrough of zero champion in this event for our university.
The China Aeromodelling Design Challenge and the National Aerospace Model Championship for Scientific Research (abbreviated as “CADC”) has been held for 20 consecutive sessions since its establishment in 2004, with nearly 170 universities and more than 100,000 students participating. It is an aerospace scientific research event that integrates technological innovation, engineering practice, teamwork and competitive sports. It is one of the top three world-class competitions for college students’ aircraft design, along with the SAE Aircraft Design Competition and Air Cargo Challenge.
It is reported that this competition was jointly organized by the National Sports Administration Aviation Radio Model Sports Management Center, China Aviation Sports Association, China University Student Sports Association, and National University of Defense Technology, and undertaken by the School of Aerospace Science of National University of Defense Technology, Hunan Provincial Sports Bureau, and Changsha Municipal People's Government.

Participants say:
Zhang Lei (Instructor): We climbed the award podium, held the championship trophy, and showed the style of Jiao Tong University! Two teams, eight students, worked together, overcame difficulties, held meetings, discussed decisions, practiced, and optimized solutions. The students won the honor with their excellent strength and performance. I hope more students will join us in the future and realize their aerospace dreams.
Tian Peidong (Instructor): Participating in CADC was a valuable experience, and I deeply realized the meaning of teamwork, fearlessness, and perseverance. Keep up the good work!
Cao Zhijian: The competition requires teamwork, learning and feeling in the process, there is a way to the mountain of books, and every difficulty must be faced and solved bravely and actively. Thank you for the hard work of the college and the coaches.
Feng Yiyuan: We went through twists and turns along the way, and finally held the championship cup. Looking back, this experience was incredible. People don’t know the wood that reaches the clouds, only wait for it to start to show its height!
Song Yu: Thank you to the China Aeromodelling Design Challenge for giving us an opportunity to challenge ourselves and others. We gained a lot of knowledge related to model aircraft in the competition, saw the style of various teams, and had a clearer understanding of ourselves.
