From December 3rd to 6th, the national final of China International College Students’ Innovation Competition (CICSIC-2023) was held at Tianjin University. Chen Miner, secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, Huai Jinping, secretary of the Party Group and Minister of Education, Zhang Gong, deputy secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and mayor, Wu Yan, member of the Party Group and vice minister of education, and other leaders attended the relevant activities.
After a fierce competition on the spot, the student innovation and entrepreneurship team of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Shanghai Jiaotong University, “Siyuan Satellite - Leader of High-Performance CubeSat Platform”, performed excellently and won the silver award in the industrial proposition track. At the same time, the international project “CroSS (Crowd-Sourced Steering)” recommended and cultivated by our school also won the silver award in the main track. This is the first time that our school has won awards in this competition.
Award-winning project introduction:
Siyuan Satellite - Leader of High-Performance CubeSat Platform
CubeSats have attracted worldwide attention for their low cost, short development cycle, and fast deployment into orbit. However, the low payload ratio, poor reliability, and high failure rate restrict the further development of CubeSats. The Siyuan Satellite team proposed a CubeSat electromechanical and thermal integrated design concept, combined with a payload intelligent management system, greatly improving the space utilization rate and payload ratio. In addition, the Siyuan Satellite team pioneered a three-in-one solution of multi-fold solar sail, composite new material, and self-developed fault detection algorithm, greatly improving the reliability of CubeSats. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, National Lunar Exploration Center and other units evaluated the team’s technology breakthrough the bottleneck of low payload ratio, poor reliability and high failure rate of CubeSats, and realized the technology leadership of domestic CubeSats.

CroSS - Intelligent Scenic Area Terminal System Based on BDS RTK
The team aimed at the problem that a large number of uninhabited areas in the Belt and Road countries urgently need to be developed but are restricted by the lack of road maps, and targeted tourism route development, high-response emergency rescue and fine management of uninhabited areas. They cleverly used the unique features of the Beidou system, such as B2b precision single-point positioning and navigation-communication integration, to build a digital base frame for the management of uninhabited areas, and proposed a low-cost software and hardware integrated solution for map construction and route management. The hardware terminal designed by the team can run in harsh environments with limited signal coverage, and provide users with a variety of services, including map drawing, route planning, and emergency assistance. The product has rich functions, strong applicability, and obvious cost advantages. It is suitable for promotion and application in the eastern part of Russia and developing countries along the Belt and Road, and is expected to create a large number of jobs in the upstream and downstream of the tourism industry. At the same time, the product also has a feasible application plan in the lost contact accidents and environmental protection in the western part of China.
