The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Displays Innovative Technologies at the 2024 Turbine Technology Expo

Published:2024-06-11

The 2024 Turbine Technology Conference and Civil Aviation Engine and Gas Turbine Industry Exhibition was held from May 30 to 31 at the Zhangjiang Science Hall. The conference, featuring a combination of forums and exhibitions, created a platform for the exchange of aviation and gas turbine technologies and innovation. It fully displayed the progress of domestication, cutting-edge technologies, and advanced products in the aviation and gas turbine sectors, with the goal of promoting technological innovation, efficient supply chain integration, and a sustainable development strategy focusing on low-carbon and decarbonization. The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University showcased its Aerospace Power Innovation Laboratory's products, including a full lifecycle digital operation and maintenance cloud system, an electric ducted fan engine, and an eVTOL simulator.

The full lifecycle digital operation and maintenance cloud system is designed for intelligent operation and maintenance of gas turbines. It incorporates comprehensive data acquisition, hybrid data processing, 5G local network communication, intelligent core algorithms, and modular system integration to achieve design optimization, intelligent operation and maintenance, integrated monitoring, cloud management, and intelligent push functions throughout the lifecycle of large industrial equipment. It is applied to the operation and maintenance, fault diagnosis, and factory quality inspection of gas turbines and other industrial equipment.

The electric ducted fan engine integrates a hydrogen fuel cell, lithium-ion batteries, and supercapacitors, with an adaptive energy management strategy controlling power loads in real-time. It features a centralized power supply distribution architecture and a distributed propulsion layout, ensuring stable and efficient conversion of electrical energy to thrust. This technology has been awarded the silver medal at the 49th International Invention Exhibition in Geneva in 2024. A single 250kW test prototype has completed stable operation under all conditions, meeting the power requirements for small and medium-sized eVTOLs, and 16 units in parallel can support the route operation of a 30-seat electric aircraft.

The eVTOL simulator, developed in collaboration with the Future Concept Aircraft Joint Laboratory by Shanghai Rumo Aviation Technology Co., Ltd., can conduct preliminary vertical take-off and landing tests, flight tests, and control experiences. It enables human-machine interaction simulation, iterative optimization of eVTOL control logic, and promotes the commercialization of eVTOL operations.

Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chen Fang, served as the executive chairman of the "Advanced Gas Turbine Technology Innovation and Industry Development" sub-forum, sharing insights on the urgent needs, trends, challenges, and innovative advantages of digital health management for gas turbines with the theme "Exploration and Prospects of Digital Health Management of Gas Turbines."

The event received extensive coverage from mainstream media including People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency, as well as specialized outlets such as the Blue Carbon Energy Public Account and Shanghai Television's Look Video, generating a warm social response and increasing public attention.
